Thirteen years ago my son was born. Funny thing is, I didn’t realize I was pregnant until I was 6 months (yeah, I was one of those women) & passed out on the train platform in NJ. When I made it to the hospital and finally came to my senses, the Dr. said, “Miss, how far along are you?”, “Well I think I was only about 15 min from home”. That’s not exactly what he meant.

Thirteen years later, my son is my rock. As I try to teach him, I’ve learned a lot from him as well. He has compassion, when I suffer from a lack of it. He sees the good in everybody, even those not filled with much of it. He’s candid in expressing his feelings and expects the same out of others.

He’s thirteen, but he’s wise beyond his years. The love between a mother and her child is something that can’t be replicated. In thirteen years, he’ll be 26. I hope every quality he has now is still present.

5K Purple Stride Walk In Washington, DC - Pancreatic Cancer Network:

I remember as a kid, listening to 1010 WINS radio station and I would hear my cousin, Brenda Box, doing her news reporting for Associated Press. She was one of the first people to pique my interests in media. Till this day, she’s still working the newsroom at NPR.

Two years ago she was diagnosed w/pancreatic cancer & the outlook was bleak. Next month she is walking in the 5k Purple Stride DC for Pancreatic Cancer Awareness. She’s been chronicling her strides on her personal blog http://boxilla.blogspot.com/. Although she’s taking radiation therapy 5 days a week now, she’s determined to still complete the walk in June. Donations to the Pancreatic Cancer Network will be appreciated.
